What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy helps people engage in the daily activities—called occupations—that support health, connection, and quality of life. During pregnancy and parenthood, some occupations include preparing for birth and feeding, establishing routines, and caring for baby. For infants, occupations include feeding, sleeping, soothing, bonding, and early play. An occupational therapist supports the mother-infant dyad by addressing neuromuscular development, sensory regulation, feeding, positioning, routines, and maternal well-being to help both mom and baby feel calm, confident, and connected.
